What's in a Bear?

My name is Jacqueline Barker and I am a full time Teddy Bear designer. I create all my bears under the name of the Naughty bear Co. All the bears you see on this website and at bear fairs are made and designed by myself here in Liverpool UK. I create one off designs but on request I can also make editions of up to 6. I am also a fully qualified Graphic Designer and I try to incorporate these skills into making my bears as individual as ever!

Importantly all my bears are made and stored in a NON-SMOKING environment.

My bears are created using the finest German or English mohair, Alpaca, Ultrasuede, cashmere and suedette. I use glass eyes, cotter pin joints, wobble head joints and polyfil. They can also be filled with high density plastic pellets, steel shot and glass bead. Over time I have developed a unique effect that I use on some of my bears noses. They are hand painted and varnished in a special way to give them a varigated colour effect and a glossy "wet-look". I also airbrush some of my bears, this is another skill from Art College that has developed into a recognisable feature of some of my bears! My bears are easily recognisable by their big tummies, oval noses and small ears!

My bears proudly wear an NBC logo embroidered on their left foot. They have a black tag with red lettering sewn into the back seam. Then around their neck they have a red inlayed printed tag which contains all the bears "ingredients" plus edition details, date and more importantly my signature! They also wear a small white contact details tag.

I actually make each and every bear myself. I am proud to say that my bears are true Artist designs and are not manufactured or reproduced using outworkers. All my bears are created and stored in a non-smoking environment.

My bears are made and sold here in the city of Liverpool, U.K. They also travel regularly to new homes all over the world, so far they have gone as far as U.S.A., Japan, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

My bears can be seen regularly in all the major Teddy Bear Magazines and at selected Bear Shops across the UK.
